Former Canisius College student athletes Vasilis Kariolis and Aileen Hoak captured the top male and female prizes at the 15th annual Shoes for the Shelter 5K. The two were part of a field of just less than 400 runners who departed campus at 10 am on a route that took them to the Albright Knox Art Gallery and back.

Kariolis won the race in a time of 15:33, while Hoak posted the top female time at a race record clip of 17:28.

Other winners included Mike Marino, who won the Canisius male faculty-staff honors with a time of 19:10. Mary O’Sullivan was the fastest among female staff, she clocked a time of 24:20.

Jon McDonald was the fastest male student in 16:29 and Allison Braun was the quickest female student runner in 19:29.

Best among the alumni were Justin Weldon, who covered the route in 17:12 and Erin Lacki who finished in 21:36

The total number of shoes collected will be announced later in the week.
