Under the Dome welcomes the following new faculty members who join the Canisius community this fall.
Lisa M. Antoszlewski, PhD, assistant professor of biology, comes to Canisius from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she taught in the Department of Developmental Biology. She conducted her doctoral studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where her research examined the regulation of E2f1-target gene expression during Drosophila embryogenesis. Antoszlewski’s undergraduate degree is in biochemistry, summa cum laude, from Susquehanna University. Her philosophy of teaching college students is to focus “less on whether they chose to attend graduate school or establish a research lab but whether you make an impact on their lives.”
James P. Donnelly, PhD, associate professor of counseling and human services, previously was the director of research at The Center for Hospice & Palliative Care in Cheektowaga, New York. In addition, he served for three years as the director of training in the combined doctoral program in counseling and school psychology at the University at Buffalo, where he taught a variety of courses from introduction to counseling to advanced statistics. Donnelly did his undergraduate studies at Allegheny College, where he earned a BA in psychology with a minor in political science. He obtained his PhD from the University at Buffalo. His dissertation was entitled Positive thought and mood: A causal analysis.
Prior to Canisius, Assistant Professor of Animal Behavior, Conservation and Ecology
Christy Hoffman, PhD, was an instructor in the Master of Arts Program in the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago, where she continued her post-doctoral scholarship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience. Hoffman also obtained her PhD in comparative human development from the University of Chicago. She graduated summa cum laude with a BA in anthropology and a BS in biopsychology from the College of William and Mary. Hoffman has been the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships which have supported her research and scholarship. Hoffman’s teaching interests are animal behavior and cognition, applied animal behavior, canine behavior; psychology of the human-animal bond, and research methods in animal behavior.
Claire L. Kovacs, PhD, is a new assistant professor of art history in the Department of Fine Arts. She was a postdoctoral fellow in modern and contemporary art as well as visiting assistant professor at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Kovacs’ PhD is from the University of Iowa, where her major examination field was 19th century French art. She holds an MA and BA in art history from Case Western Reserve University. In addition to her teaching experience, Kovacs is an experienced art curator. She is fluent in French and literate in both German and Italian.
Nancy G. Lynch, visiting assistant professor of management, has been an adjunct professor at Canisius College, Cornell University and the University at Buffalo. She has 20 years of experience teaching and practicing human resource management. As a human resource specialist, her areas of expertise include human resource management, labor relations and professional development. Lynch has taught at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree levels. She is the principal consultant for Human Resource Consulting Associates/Consulting Alliance in Buffalo. Lynch obtained her MBA and BA from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Prior to Canisius, Melissa A. Mosko, PhD, visiting assistant professor of philosophy, was a visiting assistant professor at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. She was also an adjunct instructor and teaching fellow at Wright State University and Marquette University, respectively. Mosko taught introduction to philosophy, theory of ethics, great books in philosophy and business ethics. She holds a PhD from Marquette University, where her doctoral dissertation was entitled Sexualized Violence, Moral Disintegration and Ethical Advocacy. Mosko received her BA in philosophy and political science from Xavier University.
