I am pleased to appoint Luanne Firestone as the interim director of Campus Ministry, replacing the Rev. John P. Bucki, S.J.  As an associate campus minister at Canisius for the past seven years, Luanne has been instrumental in planning and implementing our international service trips to Ecuador, El Salvador, Jamaica, India and Poland; advising the Christian Life Communities; and promoting and coordinating post-graduate volunteer service opportunities.  Lu is a graduate of Georgetown University and holds a master of arts degree in Theology from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. Her knowledge and facility in connecting with individuals across the Canisius community, as well as her commitment to faith and service are ideally suited for this assignment.  I am grateful to Lu for accepting this interim post and I look forward to working with her.

I am also pleased to announce that Rev. James L. Dugan, S.J., will return to Canisius after 13 years and assume the position of associate campus minister.  Father Dugan grew up in Buffalo and attended Canisius College.  After graduating in 1964, he entered the New York Province of the Jesuits and was ordained a priest in 1973.  Father Dugan spent nearly 20 years in Rome, Italy as a librarian at the Pontifical Oriental Institute and the Pontifical Biblical Institute.  He arrived back in Buffalo in 1994, where he served as an administrator and clinician in the Canisius Counseling Center and as an adjunct professor of philosophy.  Most recently, Father Dugan has been the associate pastor at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York City.  We are delighted that he is returning to Canisius in this role.

In the months ahead, Canisius will conduct a search for a permanent director of Campus Ministry.  Please join me in congratulating Lu and Father Dugan!
