New Employee Parking Tags

It’s time to register for employee parking tags for 2012-2013.  Current tags expire August 15, 2012 and employees are able to register online.

To purchase a permit you will need:

  • Your Canisius username and password
  • If you are not paying via payroll deduction, your credit card or checking/savings account information for payment
  • Vehicle description (year, make, model, color)
  • Vehicle license plate number

You can pay via payroll deduction, credit, or webcheck.  Your tag will be sent to you, once you’ve registered and paid, via interoffice mail.

If you pay with cash, you must still register online, but will need to pay at a Student Accounts window in the Health Science Building, 2nd floor, at which time your tag will be given to you.

If you have any questions, please call Shelly Baronich, at Ext. 8529 or baronicm@canisius.edu.

Energy-saving Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs)

CFLs are becoming more common in homes and at work. They use less electricity and have a positive impact on the global climate. However, they do contain small amounts of mercury.

Here is information you should know when a:

CFL burns out:
It may smoke a bit and the plastic base may blacken. This is normal. Except for replacement, no action required. Also, you will need to recycle it. Do not dispose of it with the general trash items.

CFL breaks:

  • Open a window to allow the room to air out for 5-10 minutes. Concentrations of mercury will likely approach zero in an hour or so.
  • People and pets should leave the room.
  • Turn off forced air heaters and air conditioning.
  • Collect broken glass and visible powder with stiff cardboard. Wipe up small particles with sticky tape or a damp paper towel. Wrap in paper, to ensure no one gets cut, and dispose of with ordinary trash.
