The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and the FacTS Center will hold various workshops and trainings over the summer months.  Topics include:

Engaging First-Year Students Presented by Pat Coward, Center for Teaching Excellence
Sponsored in partnership with the Office of Student Success and Retention, this interactive workshop/presentation will outline an academic environment that encourages student motivation and success, based on student priorities and motivations and on “Best Practices” in approaches to pedagogy and compared to “Ignatian Pedagogy.”  Participants will develop pedagogic approaches that will engage students and guide them to take responsibility for their own learning.  Dates are:

Monday, June 21 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Student Center, Regis North
Tuesday, July 13 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Student Center, Regis North
Thursday, July 22 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Student Center, Regis North
Thursday, August 5 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Old Main 210

This workshop will be repeated in the Fall semester.  All faculty who teach first-year students, especially those who teach FYS 101, English 101, RST 101, and Philosophy 101 are encouraged to attend.

High School Language Arts: Panel Discussion for FYS and English 101 Instructors
In partnership with the Western New York Writing Project, the CTE is sponsoring a panel of high school English teachers who will explain the New York State Standards they are held to in their classrooms and the methods they use to deliver their instruction.  This panel is intended to inform teachers of FYS and English 101 what skills and habits they can reasonably expect from their first-year writing students.  Dates are:
