Canisius Passes New York State Annual Fire Inspection

Michael H. Secor, a New York State fire protection specialist, conducted an in-depth fire inspection of the campus from April 5 – 16, 2010.  Secor returned on June 8, 2010 to re-inspect, checking remediation of violations previously noted.  Canisius did well and will receive certificates of compliance for each campus building.  Thank you to all who helped in the preparation.

Fire Drills Friday (June 11)

Fire drills will be held on Friday, June 11 beginning at 10 a.m.  The buildings to be included are Demerly Hall, Agassiz, Lyons Hall, Montante Cultural Center, Wehle Technology Building, Loyola Hall, Old Main, Churchill Academic Tower, Bagen Hall, Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library, Horan-O’Donnell, Palisano Pavilion, Christ the King Chapel, Health Science, Koessler Athletic Center, and the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center.

A drill usually lasts between 10 and 15 minutes.  One person is allowed to stay in an office or unit to answer phones.  If you have an event that would be severely disrupted by a drill, please contact Lt. Ron LaVigne in public safety at Ext. 2330 to discuss the situation.

Archives Exhibit Celebrates Legacy Of Father Cooke

Canisius College Archives and Special Collections celebrates the legacy of Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, S.J. with a special exhibit entitled “He Came, He Saw, He Revitalized” now on display on the 2nd floor foyer of the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library.

The exhibit commemorates Father Cooke’s leadership and vision to transform Canisius from a local commuter college into a prominent residential comprehensive university.  Currated by Archives Assistant Nancy Noel, the exhibit will remain on display throughout the summer, and can be viewed during normal library hours.

Summer Institute For Catholic School Leaders

Time is running out to register for the Summer Institute for Catholic School Leaders on Tuesday, June 29 and Wednesday, June 30.  The conference is jointly sponsored by the Department of Catholic Schools Diocese of Buffalo and Canisius College.

National speakers Lorraine A. Ozar, PhD and Michael J. Boyle, PhD, of the Center for Catholic School Effectiveness at Loyola, Chicago will lead the two day conference.  All members of the Canisius community with an interest in school reform are welcome to attend.
