Cheer on Ice Griffs with President Stoute

Join President Steve Stoute and his family at 7:00 p.m. tonight, Friday, October 21, in cheering on the Ice Griffs hockey team as it faces off against the RedHawks of Miami (Ohio) at LECOM Harborcenter.

Canisius faculty and staff are encouraged to bring their family and friends to this inaugural event and take advantage of a special $10 faculty and staff ticket option. Faculty and staff can show their Canisius ID cards at the ticket office in the Koessler Athletic Center in advance of the game, or at the ticket window at LECOM Harborcenter on the night of the game, to secure their discounted tickets.  Canisius faculty and staff can also purchase a season ticket plan for hockey, with pricing starting as low as $110.  For more information on that offer, call Todd Hummel in the ticket office at (716) 888-TIXX, or click on the TICKETS tab at the top of GoGriffs.com.

Friday’s game against Miami (Ohio) has been designated as the program’s annual “Pink the Rink” night, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink as Canisius joins with Kaleida Health and the American Cancer Society to raise funds and raise awareness for breast cancer screening. There will be a special raffle available to all fans, with all donated funds going directly to head coach Trevor Large’s “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign. A raffle ticket costs $10 (or three tickets for $25), and the winner will receive an official, game-worn Canisius hockey jersey.

For tickets, or more information, please call the Canisius ticket office at (716) 888-TIXX.

“Choose Love” T-Shirts on Sale Now

There is still time to purchase your Canisius “Choose Love” T-shirt to help benefit the Lt. Aaron Salter Memorial Scholarship Fund. T-shirts can be purchased online HERE for $18.

The Canisius Athletic Department will donate all net proceeds from the T-shirt sales directly to the Lt. Aaron Salter Memorial Scholarship Fund, which has been established to be awarded to a graduating high school senior from a Buffalo Public or charter school “whose work ethic and civic passion echo Salter’s and is mechanically inclined and interested in improving upon existing technology in such a way that will make life easier for future generations.”

Aaron Salter Jr. was the security guard working at the Tops Markets on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo on May 14, when a gunman entered the store and killed 10 people. Salter fired multiple times at the shooter before being shot and killed himself.

In May, Canisius College honored his life and memory during undergraduate commencement ceremonies, when it posthumously conferred a bachelor of arts degree upon Salter. Salter’s son, Aaron Salter III, accepted the Canisius diploma from the College. His father needed only three credit hours – or one class – to complete his degree.

If you have already purchased a “Choose Love” T-shirt, the athletic department thanks you for your support. If you chose to pick up your purchase on campus, you will be receiving an email with pick-up times and locations.
