On Thursday, November 29, history and classics student Stanley Zolnowski presented highlights of his honors thesis, Ptolemy I: Legitimizing a Dynasty. Zolnowski’s talk was part of the lunchtime Brown Bag Seminar series organized by the Institute for Classical and Medieval Studies (ICMS.) He discussed the methods the Macedonian general used to consolidate his control over Egypt in the period immediately following the death of Alexander the Great. Here, he compares imagery from coins as an illustration. Zolnowski’s ideas will be expanded when he defends his thesis during exam week.
These friendly and informal seminars are open to anyone interested and involve a wide variety of topics. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunches and feed their minds as they feed their bodies. This was the last Brown Bag talk for the fall 2018 semester.
