A piece of London history has been on display at Canisius for more than 30 years. Plenty of people pass it every day and have no idea what it is. It’s the gate from the notorious London Newgate Prison.

Weighing 1,800 pounds, the gate is made of solid oak and iron.  This gate was the last to close behind many condemned prisoners, as they were led to the gallows.

Click the link to watch the story featured on Channel 7 and see librarian Kathleen DeLaney speak on the important piece of history and the connection it has with Canisius College.
