This year, Canisius College will be collaborating with more than  60 institutions to celebrate Women’s History Month. The Women’s Empowerment Draft will honor 31 NYS K-12 public schools in building awareness and enthusiasm around the iconic women for which these schools are named. Canisius College has selected Dr. Lydia T. Wright, the first African American pediatrician in Buffalo, as its 2022 Women’s Empowerment draft pick.

On Tuesday, February 15, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Jasmine Thomas, USA Diversity Program Board Chair, along with a student representative from Dr. Lydia T. Wright School in Buffalo, NY will recognize our honoree.  Over the next several weeks, the ALANA Student Center, Center for Urban Education, USA Diversity Program Board, and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, will partner with students at BPS Dr. Lydia T. Wright to develop videos, photos, and activities to be featured in our social media campaign #WEdraftDrLydiaTWrignt on March 19.

We are excited to join with K-12 schools, colleges, and universities in this meaningful initiative. Please look out for ways you can support this project.
