Those who use Zoom for web conferencing, meetings and courses frequently make recordings of their online sessions. Canisius’ Zoom license includes plenty of room to house these recordings online but there is a limit to the total storage for all users. Periodically, the Zoom administrators at Canisius must delete old videos within the Zoom account. In most cases, videos still stored in Zoom accounts are no longer in use or haven’t been viewed anytime recently.
After Monday, July 1, videos stored within Zoom that were recorded before Tuesday, January 1, 2019 will be deleted.
If you have videos stored at Zoom that you continue to use in coursework or administrative work, please download and transfer them to your Canisius Google Drive by Monday, July 1.
With mixed feelings, I write to tell you that Dr. Jeffrey Lindauer has decided to step down from the dean’s position and, following a fall sabbatical, return to the faculty in the Department of Kinesiology. Jeff has done an extraordinary job leading the School of Education and Human Services over the past six years.
Time and again, Jeff focused his dedication to our Jesuit mission in ways that created new opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to truly live that mission. He is an outstanding role model for a faith-filled life. During his tenure as dean, Jeff has made remarkable strides in strengthening the college’s profile in Buffalo city schools. The Center for Urban Education, Teach for America, and the Western New York Residency Program are excellent examples of his commitment to the children and the future of this community. Through his efforts, Canisius advanced conversations on race, justice, and educational equity in the region. His vision has reinforced the college’s position as a nexus between theory and practice among educational institutions at all levels.
In addition, he was critical to our successful accreditation review in 2016 and the creation of new academic programs, including the ongoing development physician’s assistant program.
He has led the SEHS with intelligence, humility, sensitivity, and foresight. It has been an honor for me to work with him over the past few years. His thoughtful and consistent leadership have built a strong culture of trust in the School of Education and Human Services and he will certainly be missed. There is no doubt, however, that Jeff’s many talents will find new outlets as he returns to the faculty in the Kinesiology Department.
I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Nancy Wallace has accepted the position of Interim Dean of the School of Education and Human Services. Her appointment becomes effective on July 22, 2019.
Please join me in gratitude for Jeff’s outstanding service and in congratulating Nancy as she assumes her new role.

The 200th anniversary
of the founding of the Sisters of St. Mary Pentecost event will take place
Sunday, June 9 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Mt. St. Mary Auditorium, located at 3756
Delaware Avenue in Kenmore, NY.
There will be a brief narrative about
performances by various groups such as the Buffalo Choral Arts Society,
representatives from local schools, St. Martin de Porres Church Choir, Clann na
Cara Irish Dancers, Our Lady of Hope Ministries and Holy Cross Gesture Group.
If you can spare the time, and I know
this is already a busy time, I’d love to see you there! It would be
wonderful to have the Canisius presence with us on that day.

The fall 2019 course spaces are now available to begin building or adding course content. From Saturday, August 17 – Monday, August 19, D2L will undergo technical upgrades that may impact fall 2019 course spaces.
During this maintenance period, there may be service disruptions where you are unable to reach your D2L course spaces. We ask that during this time you do not attempt to add or change course content.
If you plan to build new or substantially updated content that is different from course materials stored in a previous semester before August 17, please download and save backups of the new or amended course content. D2L makes this quick and easy. See the tutorial video on exporting course packages below:
Backup is an essential practice for any faculty member so if you do not practice a backup plan, now is a great time to start.

Faculty members participated in a four-day, three-night writing retreat from Tuesday, May 21 – Thursday, May 24 at the Spencer Hotel and Spa at the Chautauqua Institute. The Division of Academic Affairs and the Office of Mission & Identity provided this opportunity for faculty to enjoy uninterrupted writing time and colleague fellowship. Participants were given unstructured time to develop their own academic or creative works. Each evening, the group gathered for dinner and conversation. The retreat provided many graces including community building across disciplines, walks around the Institute, yoga, idea sharing and rich productivity.
