Today, January 31 at noon, the Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI) will host the first in a series of meetups for those interested in Google Apps for Education.  Bring your lunch! We’ll meet in Old Main 119, where computers, internet and collaborative spirit are plentiful.

If you use Google Apps to teach, help students, make administrative work less burdensome or facilitate research, please show us!  Bring your questions for the group!  Complete novices, casual users and power users all welcome!

There are many technologies for teaching and learning available to faculty and their students. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with those applications commonly used in coursework, such as email, Google Drive and Desire2Learn.  Faculty shouldn’t need to spend class time showing students how to use these applications.

The Center for Online Learning & Innovation and Information Technology Services have put together a technology guide for Canisius students.  This wiki page shows students what is available and where to find help and support resources for technologies supplied to them by the college. Professors, please direct your students to this resource, and include this link in your syllabus:

Serious Games Meetup Group

SeriousGamesMeetup2The third meeting of the Serious Games Meetup Group is Friday, February 3 at 10:30 a.m. in Lyons Hall 122.  Experience the immersive power of Virtual Reality (VR) in a one-hour play session.

VR is well known for thrill-inducing roller coaster rides and other entertaining experiences.  However, it can also be a powerful tool for immersive and interactive story telling experiences that serve educational purposes. In this VR play session we will experience educational applications of VR that include a brief history of flight, exploration of anatomy within a human body, a journey to the moon on board the Apollo 11 spacecraft, an autism simulator and others.

Adjunct Faculty Information Session Tonight

Tonight, January 24, a new adjunct information session will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Old Main 115. This session will feature information delivered by representatives from Human Resources, the library, Academic Affairs and the Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI).  All adjuncts, whether teaching at Canisius for the first time this semester or those who simply would like to learn more about teaching at Canisius are welcome.

If you are unable to attend, please see the Guide for New Faculty and take advantage of the one-on-one virtual and in-person consultations that COLI offers for adjuncts to help them get better acquainted with the college’s technologies.
