Math anxiety and the differences in mathematical performance are common issues discussed among peers in school and a commonly arising issue for educators, especially in a high school setting. Today, I will be discussing this issue and the data that I have found in scholarly journals and comparing it to a small data sample I collected myself. In my talk, I will be using this analysis to present how the data I collected relates to gender differences in mathematical performance based on the article, “An Investigation of Boys’ and Girls’ Emotional Experience of Math, Their Math Performance, and the Relation Between These Variables” by Selin Erturan and Brenda Jansen. This set of data compares statistics from various age groups along with a few other countries that have also studied math anxiety and differing performance.
