This past week has not been too bad, but an eye opener with school starting. The weekend was not bad at all… actually took off from work because someone was coming to visit me. Who’d guess? On the contrary, with the week starting while having class on Tuesday & Wednesday, as well as having a class on Friday. I know I have to get my act together now with everything picking up. However, I have been further behind the eight ball than I usually am.

Okay, it seems that I have a slight dilemma I am battling with. The other day I was back subbing at School X, which some may remember from my last post, and I noticed that the lesson plan is not how I would teach the class for the day. But first let’s back up and define what a substitute is. A substitute teacher is a person who teaches a school class when the regular teacher is unavailable or absent. With that said, isn’t it my job to teach to the best of my ability and not be held back, as long as I get across the information that the regular teacher requires? So let me explain what exactly happened on this day.

This week was the first full week of classes. The madness has started! My week started with tutoring training. I learned that Canisius is in the process of being internationally certified. This includes both the center itself, as well as the tutors. It was a very informative four hours that educated the tutors on approaches to tutoring, as well as other issues like harassment and R.A.I.N. training. The following day I had my first tutoring shift.

Four of my five classes started this week. It was nice to see all my classmates again after the long Christmas break. One slight disadvantage of having most of my classes on a Monday is that most statutory holidays occur on a Monday, which means that the course content is delivered in a more concentrated form during the other Mondays. But on the bright side, I like all the professors and I’m very impressed with the passion that they have for teaching us. I just found out that I’ve been placed at an elementary school in Newmarket (Ontario) for my EDCH 570 course, which is quite a lucky break because that’s where I live.

Ah, the sounds of Buffalo in the winter! I can hear a snow plow nearby as one of my neighbors attempts to clean out their driveway after getting quite a bit of snow last night. The sun is shining though, which makes a huge difference to me. No matter how cold it is outside, the sun can do miraculous things in helping lift the chill, even just a bit.

Whelp, I am officially 24 years young! My birthday was absolutely amazing…I couldn’t have asked for a better celebration or friends and family! Dinner at Dave and Buster’s was delicious — playtime there is always a good time — and the bar (Shenanigans) we went to after was well…shenanigans.

Well, I just finished my first full round of classes for the new semester because two of my three classes inside a classroom (one is online, four total), are on Mondays only, so with MLK Day, I had an easy week last week.

Nooo, not a diaper commercial. I just have had a few revelations lately. I’m 24 and married, with bills, an apartment, a few little part-time jobs, and college still in the forefront. Not unlike many other students my age….but, it is interesting how life creeps up on you here and there.

Well there is certainly a lot of things to do this week already. I have to read a couple of chapters for my classes and post some answers to the discussion boards. Then I need to complete another Angel/Syllabus Quiz and begin discussing the process of our Literature Circle assignment with my group. This doesn’t even scratch the surface of the many to do things around the house! :) For those moms out there – you know what I’m talking about!
