Learn the basics of R, the free statistical program that is becoming one of the normative data analytic tools in many disciplines today, Wednesday, December 4 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in Health Science 206.
The material will focus on applications rather than underlying math or programming and geared towards the individual who has never worked with R before, or is still getting comfortable with R and has taken one undergraduate-level statistics course. Ideally, individuals will come with a data set they want to work with, a question/hypothesis or two in mind about the data and some understanding of their discipline-specific best practices of how to approach the data.

Canisius men’s basketball honored its all-sesquicentennial team during halftime at the Canisius versus St. Bonaventure basketball game on Saturday, November 23. The team defeated its long-time rival 61-57 in front of nearly 4000 fans.
The New York State
Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AHPERD)
elected Clancy Seymour, EdD, president during the organization’s 82nd
annual conference November 20-23.
Seymour is an
assistant professor of kinesiology at Canisius and director of the Physical and
Health Education Teacher Education (P/HETE) program. He currently teaches
capstone and student-teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate
levels. In addition, Seymour teaches classes in assessment and teaching
methods.

Additionally,
the Canisius P/HETE program made a big splash at the NYS AHPERD Conference from Thursday, November 21 –
Saturday, November 23. Students from the Physical and
Health Education/Teacher Education (P/HETE) program attended the 82nd
annual New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation
and Dance (NYS AHPERD) conference in Verona, NY. Teacher candidates Gianna
Marcantonio, Jacob Slade and Geoff Blake were honored as P/HETE Major Award
Winners during the Amazing Persons Ceremony on Thursday, November 21st.
Shawn Parkhurst and Johnathan Connelly alongside Kate Huber (counselor education),
alumni of the P/HETE program, were also honored for their contributions to the
health and physical education profession.
Clancy
Seymour, EdD, assistant professor/assistant director of the Physical and Health
Education Teacher Education, presented
the new proposed version of the Physical Education Learning Standards to the
Higher Education Teacher Education Academy and the general membership on
Wednesday and Thursday at the conference.
The Western Zone Chapter of the association and the Canisius College P/HETE program hosted a joint social for zone members, current teacher candidates and former alumni of the college with over 100 members in attendance. A special thanks to Joe Evans, adjunct professor of kinesiology, for his efforts to coordinate P/HETE attendance along with Dr. Seymour and Lauren Kicak, associate director for graduate admissions for her co-sponsorship of the event.
Participate in a multi-station makerspace event today, Wednesday, December 4 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Andrew L. Bouwhuis ’42 Library. Enjoy the therapeutic benefits of artistic practice through multiple stations.
