On Monday, July 6, 50 HEOP students became the first Canisius University students to receive their new MacBook Airs as part of Canisius Computes, the university’s new 1:1 computing initiative.
James Rivers and Scott Petrick from IT were on hand to help students set up their devices, power them on and get connected to the technology they will use throughout their Canisius experience.
Launched this summer, Canisius Computes provides every incoming first-year student with a MacBook Air, ensuring all students have access to the same reliable technology from day one. The initiative is designed to support academic success, enhance learning opportunities and help students fully participate in coursework and campus life.
Canisius Computes is the latest step in the university’s ongoing efforts to modernize the academic environment and create a more connected, accessible and supportive experience for students. Read more about Canisius Computers here.

Katie Costanzo, PhD, associate dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and director of the environmental science program at Canisius University, was recently featured in The Epoch Times article, “12 Things That May Make You a Mosquito Magnet.”
In the story, Costanzo explains how the skin microbiome, body chemistry and environmental factors influence why mosquitoes are attracted to some people more than others. She notes that microorganisms on the skin produce compounds that mosquitoes can detect and that factors such as body heat, carbon dioxide, diet and even certain foods can affect mosquito attraction.
The article was also syndicated by The National Accord Newspaper and Global Upfront News, extending the reach of Costanzo’s research and expertise to a broader audience.

Associate Professor of Multimedia Journalism Delaware Arif, PhD, penned an opinion piece for the July 4 edition of The Buffalo News. Did you know that students in “Canisius Complete” can benefit by making the course material required?
Students are paying for this course fee to get materials for other classes, why not include yours and let the student benefit from an additional product at NO additional cost as it is a per credit hour program not per class. We have noticed several classes using recommended eBooks for their courses, if you choose to make this a required item students can access it right through D2L Bright space saving them time and making it more accessible.
This is in no way a push to make things required, we just wanted faculty to know that students may be paying additional money for materials they may want for the course but is not required. At Barnes and Noble we stive for student success so anything we can do to ensure the best outcome for them is what we are here for.
If you wish to change your adoption please email the bookstore manager, Dominic Bevilacqua, and we will work on changing that and including your materials in the program.

Canisius student-athletes continued their strong academic momentum this fall, posting a 3.49 cumulative GPA across all varsity programs while every team achieved a 3.10 or higher. In May the NCAA released the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) statistics, which indicated that all Canisius varsity programs are in good standing while 12 teams posted perfect single-year scores.
