Physics Professor Presents Latest Results at the European Nuclear Physics Conference

Dr. Michael Wood, Professor of Physics and experimental nuclear physicist, presented his latest research results at the European Nuclear Physics Conference 2025 in Caen, France, Sept. 22-26

The conference is an opportunity for nuclear physicists from across Europe to discuss topics of accelerators, nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear physics applications, few-body phenomena, and fundamental interactions.

The title of his talk was “Implications for Diquark Investigations from the Measurement of Proton Multi-dimensional Multiplicity Ratios.” His research is conducted at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility with its high-energy electron beam and the CLAS detector. He spoke of his results on the formation dynamics of the proton from quarks liberated from deep inelastic electron scattering off of nuclei of deuterium, carbon, iron, and lead.

In addition to the conference, Dr. Wood was able to experience the culture of Caen and the Normandy region of northern France.

Dr. Wood learned that the city of Caen had to be essentially rebuilt after the D-Day invasion in World War II. The conference arranged an excursion to Mont Saint Michel, an UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. Mont Saint Michel becomes an island during high tide and has a land bridge during the low tide. Dr. Wood toured the abbey which dates back to the 8th century.

Get Your Story Out: How to Submit News and Publicity Requests

The Department of Public Relations would like to remind everyone of our streamlined process for submitting requests for news and publicity.

With lectures, events, accomplishments and research initiatives gaining momentum across campus, the Department of Public Relations is here to help communicate and showcase all the great stories happening in our community.

To submit news or request publicity, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Log into the MyCanisius Portal
  2. Navigate to “University Communications” in the left-hand column
  3. From here, click on the “Project Request Form” in the left-hand column
  4. Under the tab “Job Type,” click on “News/Announcement”
  5. Complete the project request form and submit.

To ensure we can provide the best possible support, please submit your requests at least three weeks prior to the event or desired publication date. This lead time allows us to properly plan and execute your communication and meet media deadlines for event announcements.

While we strive to accommodate all requests, those submitted with less than three weeks notice may receive limited support based on our current workload and existing commitments.
