Canisius in the News

The Buffalo News interviewed Associate Professor of Economics and Finance Julie Anna Golebiewski, PhD, for an August 5 story about the region’s worsening housing affordability crisis. The article focuses on how home prices and rents in Buffalo have outpaced income growth, making it increasingly difficulty for residents – particularly first-time home buyers – to enter the housing market. Golebiewski noted that while affordability has clearly declined, Buffalo remains more affordable than many other metropolitan areas. Click here to read the story.

Steve Gattuso weighed in with Guardian Service for a July 11 feature about the pros and cons of bundling home and auto insurance policies. The article explores how bundling can offer significant savings and convenience, though it may also lead some customers to skip regular policy comparisons. Gattuso, who is director of the Golden Griffin Fund, explained that bundling provides both cost savings and simplified service by consolidating coverage and customer support under one provider. 2025-2030 Draft Equity Strategic Plan: Our Jesuit Mission in Action

Dear Campus Community,

In December 2024, the Office of Diversity & Inclusion provided a comprehensive progress report on our 5-year Racial Equity Strategic Plan. The report highlighted our collective efforts in revising institutional policies, strengthening diversity and global awareness course attributes, establishing a bias response structure, deepening community partnerships to address racial disparities, and expanding support for Women and Minority Owned Business Enterprises (WMBE).  However, there is still work to be done.

Today, it is more vital than ever to understand equity as a core function of our Jesuit mission. The 2025–2030 Equity Strategic Plan: Our Jesuit Mission in Action highlights equity principles rooted in our Ignatian values. We invite you to log in to the Wiki and share your feedback.

Your insights are essential to this process.  Thank you for your continued commitment.

D2L: Quiz Grade Screen Issue

With the latest D2L Update, there has been an issue with the D2L Quiz Grade Screen. Instructors can view not only their students but also administrators in the course, as seen in the image below:

There are two work arounds for this (see the original post in the COLI Blog for larger pictures):

Option 1: Change the Search Options/Filters

  1. In the Quiz Grade Screen, click on “Show Search Options”:
  1. Click on where it says “All users” under the “Restrict to” section:
  1. Select “Users who have completed an attempt” in the dropdown that appears (Note: This is typically the default setting):
  1. Click on the Magnifying Glass/Search Icon to confirm the new Search Filters/parameters (afterwards, click on Hide Search Options to get to the list of attempts faster):

Option 2: Go to the Attempts tab in the Quiz Grade Screen:

This will show all of the individual attempts taken by the student, listed first by Student First Name, A to Z and then by the completion time. If we would rather view the attempts by Last Name, A to Z, click on the black arrow to the right of “Learner”. Then, select Last Name, A to Z:

If there are any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact helpdesk@canisius.edu.
