A pair of Canisius University students is attracting national media attention for turning a heartbreaking NFL playoff loss into a story of hope. Nicholas Howard ’27 and Ryan Patota ’27 saw an opportunity to change the narrative when social media turned hostile against Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, when he wasn’t able to catch the game-tying two-point conversion in the Bills-Ravens divisional playoff game. Howard and Patota launched a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money for Andrews’ charity, Breakthrough T1D. The campaign began with a modest $5K goal but has since raised nearly $100,000 from football fans across the country.
Howard and Patota have been featured on ESPN, NFL.com, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, The New York Post, The New York Times, Baltimore Positive, and more.
Locally, Howard and Patota have been interviewed by WGRZ-TV Channel 2, WIVB-TV Channel 4 and WKBW-TV Channel 7.
