The English department is pleased to announce the Thomas Connelly Community Engagement Fellowships. Funded generously by alumnus Thomas Connelly ’71, ’74, these grants will support English and creative writing majors and minors who intern or volunteer at nonprofit organizations in Buffalo. Successful applicants design projects that unite their interests in English with their social commitments and professional goals, while aspiring to the Canisius University traditions of leadership and community engagement.
If you would like more information about this program or would like apply for a Community Engagement Fellowship, please contact the English Department Chair, Professor Mark Hodin (hodinm@canisius.edu) or Hawa Saleh ’24, the Connelly English Department Fellow (saleh5@canisius.edu). The application will ask you to explain how your internship or volunteer experience contributes meaningfully to your academic work in English or creative writing; to have a sponsor at your organization; and to propose a final project. such as a creative work, essay, video documentary or presentation, that you can share with the Canisius community. Fellowships will be paid as a stipend of $2,000 for approximately 130 hours of on-site work. The grants are competitive and will be awarded by a committee of English department faculty. Awards for summer will be made by April 15 and sooner for proposals for spring volunteering or internships.
