On Monday, September 30, Canisius University will recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation also known as Orange Shirt Day. This day commemorates the residential school experience, witnessing and honoring the healing journey of the Survivors and their families. By wearing an orange shirt on September 30, you commit to the enduring truth that EVERY CHILD MATTERS, every day and everywhere.
We ask that members of our community wear an orange shirt (you may have received one from a previous years’ recognition). If you do not have an orange shirt, you can stop by the ALANA Student Center to pick one up. Sizes and quantities are limited and will be given away on a first come, first served basis.
Throughout the day we will have opportunities to learn more about the history of residential schools and the history behind the orange shirt. We look forward to seeing the community standing in solidarity with indigenous community. Please contact the ALANA Student Center at asc@canisius.edu with any questions or concerns.
