Canisius Receives $5M Gift from Philanthropist Tom Golisano

Canisius University is honored to announce that it is the recipient of a transformative $5 million gift from Rochester entrepreneur, philanthropist and civic leader Tom Golisano.

This generous donation is part of a $360 million philanthropic initiative benefiting 82 nonprofit organizations across upstate New York, which Golisano unveiled at a news conference in Rochester, NY earlier today.  The unrestricted multi-year awards support a diverse range of causes, all meaningful to Golisano, and include healthcare, animal welfare, disability services and education.

“On behalf of the entire Canisius community, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to Mr. Golisano for his commitment, his generosity and for his investment in Canisius University,” said President Steve Stoute. “This gift to Canisius will significantly bolster our ability to deliver meaningful and transformative educational experiences for our students in furtherance of our mission of forming and transforming the next generation of great leaders who will serve the community of which we are all a part … It is indeed a great day to be a Griff.”

Mass of the Holy Spirit

Just a reminder that today, Wednesday, September 18, is the Mass of the Holy Spirit.

As a Catholic, Jesuit University, one of Canisius’ annual traditions is to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit at the beginning of each academic year. Today’s Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Chapel. All campus community members are welcome to join us, regardless of their faith tradition.

This wonderful tradition allows us to celebrate our solidarity as a campus community and ask the spirit of God to bless our studies, work, and activities throughout the academic year. Our academic calendar includes a special break in the class schedule on this day so that all members of our campus community have the opportunity to attend and participate in the Mass. As a reminder, any classes that normally meet on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday pattern do not meet on this day. Classes that normally meet on Wednesday only or on a Monday and Wednesday pattern will still meet on this day.

After the Mass, brunch will be served in the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center Economou Dining Hall.

We hope to see you at the Mass of the Holy Spirit.
