Submitting Publicity and News Requests

The Department of Public Relations is excited to announce the implementation of a more streamlined system for submitting publicity and news requests. This change will enhance our ability to communicate and showcase the diverse news, events, accomplishments and research happening across our campus community.

To submit news or request publicity for external communication, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Log into the MyCanisius Portal
  2. Navigate to “University Communications” in the left-hand column
  3. From here, click on the “Project Request Form” in the left-hand column
  4. Under the tab “Job Type,” click on “News/Announcement”
  5. Complete the project request form and submit.

To ensure we can provide the best possible support, please submit your requests at least three weeks prior to the event or desired publication date. This lead time allows us to properly plan and execute your communication and meet media deadlines for event announcements.

While we strive to accommodate all requests, those submitted with less than three weeks’ notice may receive limited support based on our current workload and existing commitments.

Business Objects Infoview Upgrade

Business Objects Infoview will be upgraded for the entire university today, Monday, September 16.

To access the new version, please use the “Reports” link found in the portal under MY APPLICATIONS. If you had the link saved to your portal favorites, it will be “broken” (red in color), so just drag and drop it again to your favorites. At this time we do not have single sign on configured, so you will need to re-enter your username/password, but hope to have that resolved soon.

The following video and documentation will help familiarize you with the new version.  As it is completely web-based, it looks and functions quite differently so reviewing these resources is highly recommended (please be logged into the portal before clicking this link):

https://canisius.atlassian.net/l/cp/eFB93En5

Please review your reports in this new environment before October 15, when the old environment will be decommissioned.

Please Email helpdesk@canisius.edu if you encounter any issues or are missing reports.

Barb Irwin Featured on PBS Books

Dr. Barbara Irwin, emerita professor of communication, will be a featured guest on PBS Books, discussing the new book she co-authored with Tony Buttino Sr. and Dr. Pam Johnson: Creating Reading Rainbow: The Untold Story of a Beloved Children’s Series.

The event will be streamed on Facebook and Youtube on Wednesday, September 18 at 8:00 pm ET.

Irwin worked as a project assistant on the groundbreaking reading motivation series while at WNED PBS in Buffalo. “Reading Rainbow” was designed to address the decline in reading skills seen over summer breaks from school. The series premiered in 1983 and went on to become one of the longest running and most impactful PBS children’s television series, in the company of “Sesame Street” and “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”

“Reading Rainbow” earned 26 Emmys and a Peabody award, but most importantly, it sparked the passion for reading in generations of children.

Creating Reading Rainbow, published by North Country Books/Globe Pequot/Rowman & Littlefield (June, 2024),  gives readers an inside look at the foundational work, origin, and history of the beloved television show that still inspires readers today.
