Feast Day of St. Ignatius of Loyola

The campus community is invited to celebrate the Feast Day of St. Ignatius of Loyola with Mass in Christ the King Chapel, followed by lunch.

Canisius’ Jesuit community will celebrate Mass at 12:05 p.m. in the chapel. Afterwards, faculty and staff are invited to walk over to Bart Mitchell Quad for lunch from the Cheesy Chicks food truck, which will be available from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

The Jesuit community will use this time to say “thank you” to Rev. Tom Slon, SJ, as he completes eight years as superior of the Jesuit community and “welcome” to Rev. Jason Downer, SJ, who succeeds Father Slon in the role.

St. Ignatius Loyola was the founder of the Society of Jesus. He passed away on this day, July 31, in 1556.

Employee of Distinction

The Human Resources Department is pleased to announce that Veronica Serwacki is the Canisius University Employee of Distinction for May 2024!  Veronica was nominated for the award by Dr. Thomas Chambers, Dean of College of Arts & Sciences.

At Canisius for 44 years, Veronica currently works as the Executive Associate in the College of Arts & Sciences Department.  This is what Tom said about Veronica.

“Veronica continues to be an exceptional employee, motivated by dedication to excellence and a desire to live the Jesuit mission of cura personalis in all that she does.  Students often enter our office distressed or for a difficult meeting about their academic status, and she greets them with kindness and patience, offering them a seat and a welcoming voice.  Over the last week she put in many, many hours planning for a faculty retirement celebration, on a short notice.

Everything was done efficiently and with attention to detail.  Veronica make all of better, is beloved by faculty and other administrative staff”.

Please join the Human Resources Department in congratulating Veronica on this achievement!
