Campus Candid

Canisius lacrosse player Jackson Webster (pictured below, left) had the surprise of a lifetime this weekend when he ran into actor and comedian Adam Sandler at the college’s athletic training room. Sandler was in town for his “Adam Sandler Live” event, which is currently touring the country. He visited the KAC to get a quick workout in before the show.

Earth Week

The USA Sustainability Committee is celebrating Earth Day (April 22) all this week with a series of events (outlined above and below).  The events start today, Monday, April 17 with a Pollinator Seed Planting.

Pollinator Seed Planting
Monday, April 17 / 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
Quad

Join us as we plant seeds for our community gardens. Dr. Malini Suchak has been working with the Sustainability Committee on the pollinator gardens around campus. In an effort to educate students about monarch butterflies and the importance of pollinator plants, we will plant milkweed seeds on campus.

Earth Week Extravaganza
Wednesday, April 19 / 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Science Hall Commons

The USA Sustainability Committee will collaborate with the Art Club and the Canisius Zoological Society for an Earth Week Extravaganza. This evening will include giveaways (crewnecks and stickers perfect for water bottles) and service activities. The Sustainability Committee will facilitate an upcycling activity making dog toys out of old t-shirts to donate to the SPCA. Please join us to see the members design come to life and help a good cause.

Clothing Swap
Thursday, April 20 / 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Science Hall Commons

The USA Sustainability Committee and Phi Sigma Sigma are hosting their second annual “Clothing Swap.”  We are very excited to bring this event back to campus. If you have donated to the event, you can get first dibs and come at 4:00 p.m. to check out our selection as we set up. Come shop for clothes from the Canisius community. All clothing is free of charge and is a great way to add new clothes to your wardrobe without supporting fast fashion brands. All clothes not chosen that evening will go to starting our on-campus thrift store, Griffs Thrifts, soon! See you there!
