Thirty-five members of the Society of Pre-Health Professionals student organization along with staff and an alumna volunteered a total of 925 hours with Remote Area Medical (RAM) March 31-April 2 in Ashtabula, OH. With student commitment to our values of magis and service with justice and love, $293,845 in medical, dental and vision healthcare services were provided to 543 patients.
Beyond the numbers, our student volunteers truly accompanied patients throughout the clinic as translators, runners and more. They demonstrated being “people for and with others” in the relationships they built with the patients and each other throughout the clinic. This was in addition to the $1.7 million in services provided in previous Ashtabula RAM clinics where Canisius students have participated since they first started in 2018.

April is Autism Awareness Month and Marcus Thomeer, PhD, co-director of the Institute for Autism Research (IAR), is making the rounds on local media to educate and create public awareness about the disorder.
He recently appeared on WIVB-TV’s “Daytime Buffalo” to discuss the role the IAR plays in the community. Thomeer also authored an article for Buffalo Healthy Living magazine (page 22) about the IAR’s development of new and effective programs for autistic children, and was featured in a similar story published in In Good Health, Western New York’s healthcare newspaper.
We did it! We have more than ONE MILLION reasons to celebrate! With your help, the Canisius College community rallied together and raised a total of $1,135,854 for Giving Day. A heartfelt THANK YOU to all faculty and staff who helped us to make this the most successful Giving Day so far.
We are ONE Canisius creating countless leaders. GO GRIFFS!

Canisius College will host a celebration of the life of Lilly Adams-Dudley on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Lilly passed away on March 2, 2023.
Lilly retired from Canisius in 2018 after more than 40 years generously sharing her many talents with the Canisius community. She joined the college as a language arts specialist in 1975 and held several subsequent positions leading vital college initiatives.
An advocate for equity in education, Lilly mentored, advised and guided thousands of students over the course of her career, many of whom were the first in their families to attend college. As a result of her dedication, knowledge, and expertise, countless students became leaders in their chosen professions and in their communities.
Congratulations to Canisius College President Steve Stoute who is the 2023 recipient of the Penn Carey Law Alumni Society’s Young Alumni Award. Presented annually, the award recognizes a member of the Penn Carey Law alumni community who graduated within the past 10 years and has demonstrated outstanding professional achievements to date.
