Please join ArtsCanisius as it welcomes the Buffalo Silver Band back to campus December 10, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. The Montante Cultural Center will reverberate with the joyous sounds of the season. According to their calendar of events at buffalosilverband.org, the program includes “two sleigh rides: Prokofiev’s classic ‘Troika’ and Leroy Anderson’s ‘Sleigh Ride’ (performed a la Glenn Miller!). Rounding out the holiday bill of fare a pinch of J.S. Bach (it can’t be Christmas without Bach!), a touch of John Rutter and a dash of Irving Berlin.”

Also noted on the band’s website, “the distinctive sound of the current Buffalo Silver Band is a result of a fairly standard instrumentation for British-style brass (silver) bands: 10 cornets, a flugelhorn, three tenor horns, two baritones, two euphoniums, three trombones, four basses, and [up to] four percussionists. Most brass bands today have instrumentation close to this assortment. Note that tenor horns are used rather than French horns, while cornets replace trumpets and no reed instruments are part of a strictly British style brass band.”

This is a free will offering, and we look forward to closing out the fall semester of events with this exciting concert. For more information, please contact Yvonne Widenor, Director of ArtsCanisius, at widenory@canisius.edu
