The Office of Diversity and Inclusion would like to invite the campus community to participate in an important and upcoming event: Cultivating a Practice of Equity Mindedness.

The event is part of the college’s series of events surrounding the inauguration of President Steve Stoute.  It will be presented by Angell Howard, associate director of professional development at Illinois State University and Owner of Necessary Change Consulting.  The event takes place on Tuesday, October 25, from 3:00 -5:00 p.m. in Science Hall, Room 063 (Women’s Business Center Classroom).

This is an interactive session where participants will discuss the difference between equity and equality, develop equity minded goals and examine what is needed to make equitable decisions.  Equity has long been depicted as three individuals of different heights standing along a fence watching a baseball game.  One individual is tall enough to see over the fence, while the other two need to stand on boxes of varying heights.  At first glance, everyone receives what is needed to access the game, however the real barrier remains, the fence.
