Campus Candids

It was ‘all hands on deck’ last Wednesday, August 24 as Canisius welcomed its first-year resident students to campus. Thanks to all our student athletes, student leaders, faculty and staff who helped make the move-in go so smoothly for our newest Griffs.

‘Freshman’ President Steve Stoute and his family (above) were also on hand to meet and greet Canisius’ first-year Griffs, as they moved on campus. After welcoming students and families upon their arrival, President Stoute made his way through the residence halls to introduce himself and personally welcome the newest members of the Class of 2026 – to campus (below).

A special thank you to Barbara Irwin, PhD, professor and director of the journalism program, whose therapy dog Riley (below) brought smiles to the faces of new students, and providing them (and their families) with some much-needed affection, comfort and support during what can be a stressful time.

Canisius in the News

WIVB-TV Channel 4 visited campus on Wednesday, August 24, as the college’s first-year students moved into their residence halls. Canisius President Steve Stoute was interviewed for the story, as was student Luca Militello ’23. Click here to watch.

President Steve Stoute also spoke with Business First recently about the shrinking student pool and its potential impact on Western New York’s colleges and universities. Click here to read more.

Canisius College was included in a Buffalo News feature about the WNY Prosperity Fellowship, which supports student leaders while encouraging them to stay in Buffalo. Mary Rockwell, director of the New Buffalo Institute, oversees the fellowship program at Canisius. Current MBA student Myles Henry and Canisius alumna Nana Aluma were both interviewed for the story, which can be read here.

Associate Professor of Economics Julie Anna Golebiewski, PhD, spoke with The Buffalo News about the region’s unemployment numbers inching up in July, as hiring slowed. Click here to read the story.

The Dome Adds a New Feature

Beginning today, a new feature added to The Dome enables readers to save upcoming, on-campus events of interest to their digital calendars.

When and wherever relevant, editors of The Dome will include a link at the end of each post that enables readers to “add this event” to their calendars.

When you click the link, a series of options for various digital calendars will appear.  Most options either email you a calendar invite or download a file that your email/calendar software can open as the event.

To learn more, watch the video tutorial (above) created by COLI.

Please note that this new calendar option is only available for those events that are held on campus and scheduled in 25Live.
