Suicide Prevention Training

The Counseling Center is offering suicide prevention training for faculty and staff on Wednesday, February 3, from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. via Zoom.

QPR, the “CPR” for suicide prevention, stands for Question the person about suicide, Persuade the person to get help and Refer the person to help. QPR is designed to increase one’s ability to recognize suicidal thoughts and behaviors and to refer the person who is at risk to a professional resource.

Those who have previously participated in this training are encouraged to take it again to refresh their skills.

Email valerym@canisius.edu to register for this training.

Using the Zoom Registration Feature

The “registration” feature on Zoom is a relatively simple feature to activate in a Zoom meeting, and may be useful for instructors who are hosting meet-and-greets or similar events. Zoom will automatically create a webpage where interested participants can register and answer questions. You can then see who signed up, what the answers were to the questions you asked, and a few other details as well.

Please note that we do not recommend using the “registration” feature in place of attendance as students, even after registering, may not show up.

Check out this video for an introduction to this feature and look for part two, which goes a bit more in-depth, in the next few weeks.
