D2L: Special Access

In D2L, you are able to give Special Access to Quizzes, Dropboxes and other course materials. You have probably heard of this but maybe are not sure what it does or how to use it. Or maybe you just need a refresher.

For those unaware of what Special Access is and what it can do, Special Access can be used for students who require extra time or other accommodations. Or perhaps there was a personal matter that your student needed to take care of and missed the exam or assignment. Whatever the reason, instead of making a new quiz just for this student, you can use the same quiz or assignment and give them special access to it. You can use this video tutorial to learn about Special Access and some other tips when using Special Access.

Killing in Our Name

Georgetown University’s Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life will present “Killing in Our Name: Federal Executions and Pro-life Witness” on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. (EST).

This public dialogue brings together a U.S. Bishop, a Christian pastor and two national advocates for ending capital punishment to explore how the principles of Catholic social thought can offer direction and urgency in ending the death penalty in the United States and worldwide.

The participants include Bishop Daniel Flores of Brownsville, TX, who is chair-elect of the Committee on Doctrine of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops; Krisanne Vaillancourt Murphy, executive director of the Catholic Mobilizing Network; Sr. Helen Prejean, CSJ, a leading American advocate for the abolition of the death penalty; and Rev. Dr. Jack Sullivan Jr., executive director of the Ohio Council of Churches. Father Sullivan’s sister was murdered in 1997, yet he rejects the use of the death penalty for the person responsible and is a nationally known death penalty opponent.

Justice in the World

Mark your calendar!

The 2021 Catholic Social Tradition Conference, hosted by the University of Notre Dame’s Center for Social Concern, will be held March 25–27, 2021. This year’s gathering will be virtual and free due to the coronavirus

This year’s conference is titled “Justice in the World” and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the World Synod of Bishops’ prophetic vision by examining the justice issues proclaimed by the Gospel and addressed by modern Catholic social thought. The conference will focus, in particular, on issues central to the document: racism, ecclesial and political structures, work, internationalization and the environment.

Please join this gathering of global scholars working to expand Catholic social tradition through intellectual, artistic and social engagement. Additional information is available on the Center’s website.
