Please join the Journey’s End WNY Refugee Film Festival and Church World Service on Thursday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. for a very special virtual event on Climate Change Refugees. They will screen a short documentary narrated by three-time Pulitzer Prize winner and NY Times columnist Thomas Friedman, “Out Of Africa,” about human migration caused by climate change in the Sahel. Comments and conversation with the Senior Director for Global Migration at Church World Service, Andrew Fuys, will follow.

December 10 is International Human Rights Day. In 2018 alone, 17.2 million people were forced from their homes due to environmental disasters caused by climate change. 764,000 people in Somalia, Afghanistan and several other countries where conflict has already caused millions to flee their countries were displaced following drought. The World Bank and the UN estimate there will be at least 140 million more people displaced by climate change by 2050.

The event isĀ free, but you must register here to attend. Virtual seating is limited
