The Canisius Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced Friday that every eligible Golden Griffin student-athlete has officially registered to vote, beginning with the 2020 U.S. Election on November 3. The registration initiative was part of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) SAAC #MAACVotes program.

Canisius joins Fairfield and Siena as the first three MAAC member schools to reach a 100 percent success rate in student-athlete voter registration.

“This voter registration initiative was incredible. The way our teams stepped up to the plate and encouraged others to register was exactly the thing we needed to pull this off,” Canisius SAAC President Lexi Agee said. “The effort would not have gone as smoothly without MAAC SAAC President and Canisius cross country/track senior Turner Dirrigl. Turner was able to help provide the resources our teams needed to make the process happen even faster. I am proud of our Canisius student-athletes.”

“It’s extremely exciting to be among the first MAAC schools whose student-athlete population is completely registered to vote,” Dirrigl said. “I want to thank our SAAC representatives, coaches, Canisius athletics officials and MAAC staff members who were key in making this happen. Looking toward Nov. 3, we are eager for our student-athletes to reaffirm their commitment to civic engagement and the greater Buffalo community.”
