The Institute for Classical and Medieval Studies launches its 2020-21 Brown Bag Seminar Series on Thursday, September 24 with an examination of classicism and race. Classical Studies and the Concept of Race in the United States of America will be delivered by Davide Salvo, PhD, of the Classics Department.
Salvo will examine the impact of classical texts on the development of modern theories of race and ethnicity that shaped U.S. policies on slavery during the 18th and 19th centuries. He will also look at how classical ideas and images are used today by white supremacist groups.
Join this lunch-time discussion from 11:50 a.m – 12:50 p.m. via ZOOM. Email the Institute for Classical and Medieval Studies at ICMS@canisius.edu for the ZOOM meeting passcodes.
