Throwback Thursday

It’s Throwback Thursday!

Each Thursday, throughout the summer, the Office of College Communications will include historical facts about the college in The Dome, on Facebook and Twitter. It’s all part of our yearlong sesquicentennial celebration, which culminates in September 2020 when Canisius turns 150 years old.

Today, we flash back to July 4, 1907, the date postmarked on the postcard above. It features a view of the Buffalo Hospital of the Sisters of Charity prior to it being purchased by Canisius College in 1947 and becoming the Delavan Division. The Delavan annex housed freshmen and sophomores enrolled in Business Administration and Social Studies courses.

August Web Workshop Week

In the second week of August, Canisius College faculty and librarians will lead a series of workshops focused on methods and resources for teaching in fall 2020 semester.  Faculty will present ways in which they have promoted learning communities in online course spaces, developed creative ways to present content and communicated effectively with students in web-based courses, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.  Additionally, COLI and library staff will present resources and options for web-based course content.

Each workshop will be held via Zoom and will run about one hour and 15 minutes.  You can see workshop descriptions and sign up for workshops here.

*These workshops were originally scheduled for the last week of July but had to be postponed.

Changes to Ordering Supplies for Printers

The way the college gets supplies for the printer-copiers is changing.

Toner will no longer be automatically shipped to each device. There was too much over shipment and loss of items to make this work on our campus. From now on, all requests for supplies will go through the ITS Help Desk.

When you receive the “low toner” messages on a device, please contact the ITS Help Desk and they will send you the appropriate items. Do not replace them until the device indicates to replace them but this way you will have them on hand when needed.

You can submit these requests to the Help Desk by calling Ext. 8340, Emailing helpdesk@canisius.edu or by visiting http://helpdesk.canisius.edu.

If you find your device is out and you do not have toner on hand you can also visit the Help Desk in Horan O’Donnell Room 016 and pick it up as needed. Staple cartridges for devices that have that finishing option are also available at the Help Desk. There is no longer an additional charge for these supplies.  Paper ordering has not changed.

Click here to see the article on the Canisius College wiki page for more information on all these procedures related to printing and supplies.

If you have spare toner left over from the old devices, please drop it off at the Help Desk or send it via campus mail.  We will sort through it and return what we can to ComDoc or reuse on campus as possible.

Feel free to contact the Help Desk if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
