Canisius will host Michael McGandy from Cornell University Press today, Monday, March 9 at 4:00 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge. McGandy published a book authored by Tom Chambers, dean of Arts & Sciences, titled Memories of War: Visiting Battlegrounds and Bonefields in the Early American Republic.
McGandy will speak with Canisius faculty about their book projects. He will also participate in a panel discussion, “Secrets of Publishing,” with Dean Chambers and other Canisius faculty authors. Campus Ministry is hosting its annual RAISE Benefit this week. More than 25 Canisius students will take part in one of the college’s 2020 international service-immersion experiences this summer, journeying to locations around the globe to live out the Jesuit ideals of men and women with and for others. This year’s trips include experiences in Jamaica, Poland, El Salvador and the U.S./Mexico border.
Students are excited to embark on this transformative experience but they need your help!
Participants are expected to raise funds to cover the cost of their trip. You can help them meet their goals by attending the RAISE Benefit Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, March 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. This event is located on the second floor lounge in Old Main. The fundraiser will include a basket raffle, 50/50 split, bake sale and grilled cheese/soup for lunch from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Raffle and auction items include a signed 2013 Stanley Cup Puck, wine, restaurant gift cards and more.
You can also attend the RAISE Benefit dinner scheduled for Thursday, March 12 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The night will be complete with food tastings from around the world, live music and a cash bar. Basket and raffle winners will be chosen!

Your Canisius women’s lacrosse team will host its home opener, Wednesday, March 11 vs. St. Bonaventure. Game time, at the Demske Sports Complex, is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

In preparation for Giving Day 2020, scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, the Canisius Fund Team is communicating with program directors and/or the respective contact for the programs, institutes, teams, etc. that have opted in to fundraise on Giving Day. With the 24-hour fundraising campaign less than two months away, it’s now time to begin submitting content for your respective campaign pages.
This information has been communicated via Email to those who have opted in to fundraise, and is also below:
- Copy and images for campaign pages due! Please email Suli Calianno (lyons@canisius.edu) with any copy and images that you would like to appear on your campaign page no later than Thursday, March 19. To reference your page from last year, visit https://www.canisiusgivingday.com/leaderboards (you can access your campaign page by clicking on your respective program from the Giving Day 2019 Leaderboards).
- Submit your list request! If you will need the Canisius Fund Office to provide an email list of graduates from your program, please notify Suli Calianno (lyons@canisius.edu) no later than Monday, March 23. List requests submitted after the deadline may not be honored.
