In December 2019, students, staff and faculty sewed fleece blankets for refugees passing through Annunciation House in El Paso, TX as part of the Multi-Station Makerspace hosted by the Teacher Education Department  and the Fine Arts Department, Art History Program.

Catherine Burke from Annunciation House received the blankets last week and wrote, “The blankets arrived!  Thank you so much.  They are beautiful and so warm and soft.  Can’t wait to share them with our refugee guests who will be traveling long distances up north on buses.  Please thank all those who helped to cut and sew, as well as those who contributed financially to the gift.”

We continue to receive blankets from friends of Canisius and plan to ship them in the fall when the need is greatest. Many thanks to all who participated, and we look forward to making more blankets next semester.
