Spring 2020 Archives Speaker Series

Canisius College Archives and Special Collections will host its Spring 2020 Archives Speaker Series presentation with a book launch, in collaboration with City of Light Publishing this Friday, February 28 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library.

Mixed-media artist Elizabeth Leader is drawn to places and objects most people would mindlessly pass by. When she discovered a photo album on a curbside in Buffalo’s East Side, she wondered how she might find clues to the lives of the people in the pictures. Whose faces are those lost in another time? Out of these artifacts, Leader created art that brought their stories to life.

Elizabeth Leader and librarians Lisa Sullivan and Kathleen DeLaney will share how “finding Eleanor” led to personal stories of Buffalo’s rich immigrant history, the workplaces and urban landscapes filled with legacies and secrets living among rubble that make for more mysteries to be solved.

Her new book, titled Discarded Ancestors debuts Elizabeth Leader as a non-fiction writer and features her artwork inspired by the photo album.

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Books will also be available for purchase.

For more information contact Kathleen DeLaney, archivist/special collections librarian, at Ext. 8421.

A Busy Weekend for Men’s Basketball

The Gaels, winner of five of their last six games, moved into league contention with an 8-8 record in conference play, while St. Peter’s won five straight and is now 12-5 in the MAAC.

Canisius, which leads the nation in conference losses of five points or less with seven, reversed the trend this past Sunday, coming from 18 down to stun Manhattan at Draddy Gym. The Griffs lost a tight, three point game at Iona earlier this season, however they handed St. Peter’s one of their five league losses in Jersey City last month.
