It’s Flashback Friday! Each Friday we will include
historical facts about the college in The Dome, on Facebook and
Twitter. Flashback Fridays are another part of our yearlong
Sesquicentennial celebration, which culminates in 2020 when Canisius turns 150
years old.
Flashback to December 1940 – The Canisius College men’s basketball team had the honor of playing the first collegiate basketball game in the newly-opened Buffalo Memorial Auditorium. The $2.7 million arena seated upwards of 15,000.
Though the Griffs fell to the powerhouse University of Oregon (50-42), ‘The Aud’ became the team’s home for 56 years and more than 600 contests until it shuttered in 1996.

With exam week nearing an end and the college shutdown fast approaching, The Dome will go on a brief hiatus for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Wednesday, December 18 will be the last issue of The Dome published in 2019. (So plan now if you need something to run before year’s end.) The Dome returns to publication on Wednesday, January 15 of the new year.
As always, please be sure to have your submissions in by 2:00 p.m. on the day prior.
