Watch This Month’s Episode of “Kaleidoscope”

The Canisius College Video Institute production of the December episode of “Kaleidoscope” premieres on Saturday, December 7 at 5:30 a.m. on WGRZ TV 2. This 30-minute television program celebrates the religious diversity of our region in conjunction with the Network of Religious Communities. “Kaleidoscope” will rebroadcast each Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Spectrum Cable 20 and each Sunday at 8:00 p.m. on Charter 6 in Olean, NY.

In the first segment, program host Dr. Stan Bratton speaks with Othman Shibly, DDS, assistant professor of periodontics at the University at Buffalo, about his effort to deliver free dental care and education to Syrian refugees. Establishing the University at Buffalo Miles for Smiles program with organizations like the Alliance for Oral Health has allowed treatment to be provided for thousands of refugees through medical missions in Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon.

Our nation and communities have become increasingly religiously diverse and secular. Many Christians struggle with how to celebrate the birth and life of Jesus Christ within the wider culture, while being respectful of persons of other religious traditions. In the second segment, Dr. Stan Bratton speaks with Rev. Paul Varuvel, assistant professor of moral theology, about celebrating Christmas and the life of Jesus in a religiously diverse world.

Students in the Canisius College Video Institute produce “Kaleidoscope” under the guidance of Barbara J. Irwin, PhD, professor in the Department of Communication and co-director of the Video Institute, Jamie O’Neil, associate professor of digital media arts and co-director of the Video Institute, and Paula DeAngelis-Stein ’86, MS ’02.

Teaching Online: Updates and New Resources

Canisius College is regularly updating resources available to professors teaching online or hybrid courses. D2L, Zoom or Google Apps may have new features that you might like to try out in your next course. The Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI) developed new online tutorials that may help you or your students.

COLI offers an online live-remote workshop that helps attending faculty discover new tools and resources for teaching online. This workshop takes place via web conference, so you need not be on campus to participate!

See the dates and times for this, and other faculty development opportunities, by visiting the Academic Affairs Faculty Development Opportunities Resource. RSVP for this workshop by emailing coli@canisius.edu.
