Michael McCormick, PhD, professor of medieval history at Harvard University, will be the guest speaker for the 2nd annual Thomas M. Banchich Lecture in Classics on Thursday, October 10.

His talk, titled “Ancient DNA, Ice Cores and Data Science: Studying the fall of the Roman Empire in the 21st century,” will discuss how new technologies are revolutionizing our understanding of the end of the ancient world and the beginning of the Middle Ages.

The lecture begins at 7:00 p.m. in Grupp Fireside Lounge and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available. The event is co-sponsored by the Institute for Classical and Medieval Studies (ICMS) and the Classics Department.
