Online Faculty Development Course

The Center for Online Learning & Innovation offers a five-week mini-course for Canisius College faculty, that prepares professors to teach online and hybrid courses.  This course provides many practical tips for teaching online, but more importantly, helps faculty explore new pedagogies for active learning, social presence, and community building in courses on the internet.  The professor is the single most important element in successful student learning, and the OFDC helps professors achieve a strong teaching presence within their online and hybrid courses.  The OFDC also simulates a quality online course, so participating faculty get a sense of what it’s like to be an online student.

All Canisius College faculty are eligible to participate in the OFDC.  Whether you plan to teach an online or hybrid course in the future, aren’t yet sure you’ll teach online, or would just like to know more about online courses and coursework, this is an excellent opportunity.  Enroll by contacting

The next OFDC runs from Monday, September 16 – Friday, October 18, 2019.

D2L Summer Maintenance

The fall 2019 course spaces are now available for building or adding course content. D2L will undergo technical upgrades from Saturday, August 17 – Monday, August 19 that may impact fall 2019 course spaces.  During this maintenance period, there may be service disruptions where you are unable to reach your D2L course spaces. We ask that during this time you do not attempt to add or change course content.

If you plan to build new or substantially updated content that is different from course materials stored in a previous semester before August 17, please download and save backups of the new or amended course content. D2L makes this quick and easy. See the tutorial video on exporting course packages below.

Backup is an essential practice for any faculty member. If you do not practice a backup plan, now is a great time to start.
