Makerspace is asking students, staff and faculty to donate clean plastic lids in an effort to create an art piece inspired by the work of Mary Ellen Croteau, an award-winning artist who creates large scale landscapes and portraits using plastic lids and the results are spectacular.

There are two donation boxes on campus. One in the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library (where the work will be displayed) and one outside of Lyons 306. All plastic lids are welcome, including water bottles, laundry containers, etc. Examples of Croteau’s inspiring work can be seen on her website.

If you have any questions, concerns or ideas for an image, contact Yvonne Widenor, visiting assistant professor and program director of art history, at widenory@canisius.edu. The Art History Department plans to create the work next year as part of the college’s Sesquicentennial celebration.
