Members of the Buffalo community engaged in conversation about the book From Odysseus to Harry Potter: The Evolution of the Hero with Robert Butler, PhD, professor emeritus of English, on Thursday, February 7.

This was the second week of the course, which includes topics on the classical hero, the modern hero, WWI antiheroic poetry and the American hero/heroine, with examples from Homer, Willa Cather and J. K. Rowling. This six-week class is part of the Institute for Classical and Medieval Studies (ICMS) Lifelong Learners Center courses. Previous courses included discussions about the Seven Wonders of the World and the Persian Wars.

Visit the ICMS website for more information about the program. The second offering of the semester, Medieval Art and Architecture, will be led by Eileen Sullivan, adjunct professor of fine arts and art history.
