Employee Engagement Team Invitation

The Employee Engagement Team will begin to meet again in 2019 to discuss opportunities to enhance the work environment at Canisius College. We are seeking representatives from divisions across the campus to participate in these valuable discussions to talk about individual and departmental experiences, concerns and opportunities. The team will focus on a Canisius-wide priority: enhancing the student experience to increase enrollment and retention.

The outcomes of these discussions will be reviewed with the college’s Senior Leadership Team. We look forward to working in partnership with our colleagues to provide recommendations for an engaged workforce. We will conduct the next employee engagement survey in December of 2019. Please contact Linda Walleshauser, associate vice president for human resources, at walleshl@canisius.edu if you would like to participate on the team.

Study Participants Needed for Research on Aging and Autism

The Institute for Autism Research and Department of Psychology recently received a $379,731 federal grant from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Aging to examine the relationship between aging and aspects of ASD in older adults.

We are asking for your help in this new program of research. Please reach out to older friends and family members who might be willing to participate in this study. You can also participate yourself.

The focus of this grant is on individuals age 65 and older. However, participants are not required to be 65 and older and they do not need a diagnosis of ASD to participate in this study. An important component of this research project is the assessment of adults of all ages with varying degrees of ASD characteristics from none – high.

To participate, simply go to: canisius.edu/iar_aging.

Study participants will complete approximately 30 minutes of online surveys and a small number of participants will be asked to do a battery of in-person assessments. Participants will be characterized on multiple domains of aging including physical health, cognitive performance, characteristics of ASD and psychological well-being.

Please be aware that you are under no obligation to participate. Your participation in this research will in no way impact your relationship with Canisius or the services you could receive in the future from the IAR or community-based ASD service programs.

If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Lodi-Smith, associate professor of psychology, at lodismij@canisius.edu or (716) 888-2513.

Training for Proposing or Updating Courses and Programs in Courseleaf

Sara Morris, PhD, associate vice president for academic affairs, is offering five workshops to train faculty and staff on the Courseleaf Curriculum Inventory Management (CIM) systems. Training will include how Courseleaf modules are interrelated (what goes where), how the modules interact with Banner and how workflow operates. Because the deadline for Core Curriculum proposals is Tuesday, January 22 at 5:00 p.m., two of the workshops have been moved to next week in advance of that deadline (remember, allow time for the chair’s and associate dean’s approval). The CIM system can be used to propose new courses, modify existing courses (and request core designations) and propose or modify curriculum requirements for majors, minors or graduate programs. This training is recommended for any current or future chairs or program directors, faculty members who intend to develop new courses or add core curriculum designations to current courses, faculty members who oversee minors or other curricula, administrative associates to academic departments or anyone interested in the integration of the curriculum, catalog, and section schedule. The workshops are being offered on the following days and times:
