Ten Athletic Events Fill Christmas Break

A men’s basketball game versus nationally-ranked University at Buffalo and a pair of hockey games versus eight-time national champion University of North Dakota fill the Golden Griffins home schedule over the holiday break.

The men’s basketball team will compete against the University at Buffalo Bulls on Saturday December 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the KAC. The University at Buffalo should become the first ranked team to ever play a game at the KAC. Tickets are limited and faculty and staff are encouraged to call (716) 888-8499 this week in order to purchase your discounted seats.

The same could also be true of the hockey team’s two game series against 13th ranked North Dakota. Canisius hosts the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Friday, January 4 and Saturday, January 5 at the HARBORCENTER at 7:35 p.m.

A complete schedule of holiday games is listed below. The ticket office will be open the remainder of this week until 4:00 p.m. each day. It will be open on Thursday, December 27 and Friday, December 28 from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and on Saturday, December 29 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The office will close over the New Year’s holiday and then re-open for regular business hours on Wednesday, January 2. Adjunct Faculty Information Session

The Center for Online Learning & Innovation (COLI) invites all new, returning and current adjunct professors to an adjunct faculty information session on Monday, January 7 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in Old Main 119. This session will help prepare you to teach during the spring 2019 semester. Learn about employee resources, the library, the college mission and technology for teaching and learning.

Just before the information session, there is a faculty tour of the Bouwhuis library beginning at the library service desk at 4:00 p.m.  The library is a complex organization with a lot to offer faculty, students and staff through its services, facilities and staff expertise. Its librarians are keen to support teaching and research, as well as students’ learning. The library tour is a great way to get to know the library.

These events are not mandatory but are a fantastic way to get up to speed quickly on the essentials for teaching at Canisius College. Adjunct faculty who are teaching at Canisius for the first time this fall can benefit and returning adjunct instructors are also welcome. Refreshments will be served.

To RSVP, email coli@canisius.edu. We look forward to welcoming you to campus and to the spring 2019 semester!

Update to Canisius WordPress Editor

ITS plans to update all Canisius WordPress sites to WordPress 5.0 on Friday, January 4. The major change for users is the new block editor, which will replace the traditional editor for creating posts and pages. This will also change the process for using Divi’s Page Builder to build pages (or posts).

For most users who use the WordPress editor (and not the Divi Builder), you will likely find the new block editor to be intuitive but anticipate spending extra time to learn the editor and its features. When using Divi to construct posts and pages, you will need to learn to use the Divi Visual Builder (which is also available in the current version of WordPress). If you use Divi for simple page construction jobs, you may find you no longer need the Divi builder, since WordPress’s new block editor is a simpler but similar system where you can arrange content into blocks and columns.

If you have any questions about WordPress or Divi, contact the Center for Online Learning & Innovation at coli@canisius.edu.
