Kyla Kegler’s “Feel Me in the Library” is now on display in the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library. In an experiential installation that reflects on the conditions of feeling and through interactive tools and how-to guides, the work advocates finding feeling as a radical practice. In a moment in which we are ever-more distracted from intuitive feeling by traumatizing news headlines, increasing virtual mediation and the mindfulness industry’s commodification of self, “Feel Me in the Library” offers a means of resisting apathy and enhancing empathy. The installation plays on its unique context, serving as a haven where students and other members of the campus community may retreat from their cerebral activities for some moments of somatic exploration.
