DOUBLE FEATURE:

“Renga for the West & Refugees of Shangri-La:” Friday, November 2 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Read below for more information about the organization and the films that will be shown.

Journey’s End Refugee Services Inc. cordially invites you to a very special film festival on refugees in 2018-19 beginning with a series of extraordinary documentaries on the refugee experience in the U.S. and culminating in a two-day grand finale of three outstanding international films to celebrate World Refugee Day in June.

Proceeds will benefit the many programs at Journey’s End, which serve thousands of refugees, immigrants, asylees and other communities in Western New York each year. Please visit the website to learn more about the vital programs and initiatives for clients. The film festival has been curated to make this the most exciting and unique cinematic “happening” in Buffalo over the next year. Whether you are passionate about the plight of refugees or just love great, thought-provoking filmmaking, we have something for everyone. Congolese auteurs in Montana; poetry and paintings of Baghdad; refugees confronting white supremacy in Maine; a women-run food truck in Beirut; a Syrian, a Finn and a sushi restaurant in Helsinki are just the beginning.

All films are in English with subtitles and will be screened in the theater at Journey’s End, conveniently located in the Tri-Main Center at 2495 Main Street, Suite 530, Buffalo, NY, 14214. There is ample parking in lots on Halbert, Jewett and Rodney Streets. For more information, email Sarah Signorino at signoris@canisius.edu or follow Journey’s End on Facebook for the latest news and views on refugee issues and the film festival.

D2L’s Binder App is Phasing Out

Over the next several months, D2L is phasing out the Binder mobile app. On Thursday, November 1, D2L will no longer keep a copy of a user’s Binder content and annotations in the cloud. This data will only remain on the device where the app is installed and the web-based Binder client will no longer be available. Binder will only be able to annotate PDF documents stored on your mobile device. The “Send to Binder” button in the Content tool within D2L courses will be removed.

If you anticipate accessing your content and annotations on the Binder app after Thursday, November 1st:

  • Be sure to update the Binder app with the latest release prior to Thursday, November 1 to avoid any disruption.
  • If you use the Binder website, be sure to log into the Binder app for iOS or Android prior to Thursday, November 1 to sync all changes locally to your device.
  • Uninstalling Binder will remove the content from your device. However, Binder offers users the ability to export content using the “share” functionality in the app.

D2L anticipates ending all support for Binder in May 2019. If you use Binder to work with PDFs on mobile devices, install another PDF-capable app by that time.
