The community garden on Lafayette Avenue has vegetables to share with the Canisius community. When you visit Ms. Judi’s food truck today from 11:30 a.m. ‒ 1:30 p.m. in the Bagen parking lot, please stop by the table displaying freshly harvested, organic vegetables and help yourself to some free of charge.
The community garden is designed in partnership with various community organizations and groups including Oxford Square Block Club, PS #17 and the Congolese community. One of the main goals of the garden is to provide a space that encourages lasting relationships and collaborations built around social justice, cultural exchange, ecological knowledge, the appreciation of nature’s beauty, and of course the sharing of food! This garden embraces a shared vision, a symbol of our community’s growing dedication to sustainability and partnership. Since the garden’s groundbreaking event on Earth Day this past spring, great progress has been made with the creation of eight vegetable beds full of food, native and wild pollinator plants along the fence, a meadow area, the installation of benches for conducting student/faculty research, and park-like benches to just sit and enjoy some peace surrounded by nature.
