Eight Canisius College students recently completed a three-week international education internship where they taught English at Colegio San Ignacio (CSI) in Oviedo, Spain. This is the eighth year of nurturing a rich partnership with CSI, which is a Jesuit concertado public school, pre-K through grade 13, with 1,200 students. This professional experience included expanding two special events. Canisius students hosted American Week, during which CSI students celebrated U.S. traditions through school events and individual classroom activities. There was a grand finale that included an American lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers with a ‘healthier’ cookie made with cream cheese frosting and fresh strawberries and blueberries. Canisius students also facilitated a four-day English immersion camp held at Spain’s Jesuit retreat compound located in the beautiful coastal town of Celorio. The bus ride home was filled with singing American songs, so we know they learned some English! Canisius students enjoyed a unique educational experience as well as a rich personal experience.
